Eye styes

A stye is an infection around the eyelid; usually in the corners. The oil secreting glands become swollen, painful and infected. Staphylococcus bacteria is usually the bacteria which causes this infection. Styes can be spread from one person to the next. Here is how to ease the pain of styes and how to get rid of them.

Causes of Eye Styes

In most cases, eye styes are caused by staphylococcal bacteria. This is a common bacterium, which is primarily located in the nose. Because most people have an unrecognized habit of rubbing their eyes and nose, the bacteria can easily transfer to the eye. When this happens, the odds of developing an eye stye are high.

Symptoms of an Eye Styes

Pain over the affected area, redness at the edge of the eyelid, A pimple or red lump like development at the eyelid, frequent watering from the affected eye, discomfort when blinking, difficulty to open the eyes in bright light, Foreign Sensation within Eyes.

Home Remedies for the Treatment of Eye Styes

1. Boil a teaspoon of coriander seeds with a cupful of water for a while, like a herbal tea preparation. Use this to wash the eyes 3-4 times a day.

2. Rub clove spice in water and apply it over the stye to relief pain.

3. Use a grated potato as a poultice to reduce swelling in inflamed eyes.

4. Slit an aloe leaf lengthwise and place the pulpy side on the sore eye.

5. Guava leaves, warmed and placed on a warm damp cloth, and then used as a compress; reduce the redness, pain and swelling.

6. Boil a handful of acacia leaves in two cups of water to make a decoction and apply it as compress on the eyelids.

7. Styes can be treated at home by applying a very warm, wet, clean wash cloth to the tender area.

8. Keep the eyelids clean and oil free.

9. Slit an aloe leaf lengthwise (the leaves are thick). Place the pulpy side on the sore eye. It reduces itchiness in inflamed and sore eyes.

10. Application of prescribed antibiotic drops may also be used to help fight the infection.

11. Surgical drainage of the stye may also be necessary if the stye is not responding to treatment.

12. Wash your eyes with alum water, it can give more relief in stye and reduce the pain.

13. Take two full cup of water and one teaspoon of turmeric powder. Mix together well. And then apply as eye drops three times daily. Helps to get rid of stye.

Preventions tips for eye styes

* Do not put your fingers in your eyes as this can spread infection from your hands.

* Wash your face at least 2-3 times every day, including the eye.

* Do not be tempted to squeeze a stye - let it drain by itself or dry up. This will usually happen in 4-5 days.

* Always wash hands properly with soap before touching the eyes.

* Avoid using or sharing eye make-up when you have a stye.

* Contact lenses should not be worn during a stye infection and while it is draining. You should apply antibiotic drops to fight the infection.

* You should keep good hygiene.

* Don't rub your with contaminated hands .

* You should protect your eyes from air pollution and dust.

* You should wear sunglasses before going outside.
