Puffy eyes

Puffy eyes are a condition where the eyes begin swelling due to different factors. The skin around the eyes is very thin and is full of blood vessels which make it very sensitive. Usually puffy eyes will go away after a little bit of time or some treatments done at home.

Causes

* High blood pressure condition can push fluids into the tissue surrounding your eyes.

* Bloating Too much alcohol and/or salt can make you store water everywhere, including around the eyes.

* Heredity Sometimes, the only cause is genetics.

* Fluid retention such as due to changes in weather or hormone levels.

* Allergies or dermatitis, especially if puffiness is accompanied by redness and itching.

* The other factors are When we cry, it is often accompanied by swollen eyes. This is due to the fact that are body reacts to emotions and causes more blood to flow through the eyes which leads to swelling. Also the production of too many emotional tears can strain the eyes. Also, we get puffy eyes after sleeping. This can be caused by different factors such as too much sodium in a diet causing water retention, tossing and turning and not getting enough sleep, excessive drinking of alcohol, and others as well.

Remedy

* Raise the head of your bed at night. This helps prevent fluids from accumulating around your eyes as you sleep.

* While sitting up, apply a cool tap water compress to the skin under your eyes for a few minutes. You can also use chilled cucumber slices, a refrigerated gel mask or chilled, damp tea bags.

* Wash face with ice cold water.

* Limit sodium intake.

* Drink lots of water. Puffy eyes often indicate water retention, which you can alleviate by drinking plenty of liquids; this flushes excess salt from your system.

* Remove contact lenses each night before bed to avoid puffiness caused by lens irritation and drying.

* Moisten two tea bags in cold water, chill them in the refrigerator and place them over closed eyelids for several minutes.

* For allergies and puffy eyes, find out the item causing the allergic reaction and minimize its use; doctors may also provide medication in the form of shots or prescription drugs.

* Limit your intake of alcohol and salty foods and drink plenty of water. Proper hydration is key to helping your body and skin look and feel their best.

* Apply a cool compress. Sit for several minutes with chilled slices of cucumbers or tea bags, wet cotton balls or a cold washcloth over closed eyes. The cold helps constrict blood vessels, decreasing swelling.

* Use an aloe-based eye-soothing gel or cream. Avoid rubbing eyes.
